Shout Out: Kelia Lomeli

Here at Vector we like to recognize students who put in hard work to benefit the school and the community, who feel it is their civic duty to better their peers. I would like to recognize an HGM alumni and 2018 graduate of North Hollywood High School, Kelia Lomeli. Kelia has been an active member of the NoHo community through her participation in Girl Scouts. To achieve her Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouts, it required 80 hours put into a Take Action project. For her project, last May 2nd, Kelia created an event at school called My Future My Way Career Fair. Many seniors nearing graduation have a huge question looming over them about what they are going to do after high school. Are they going to go to college or pursue a career without a college degree? Most parents, teachers, and many other adults at NoHo would consider no college career suicide. The fair addressed these concerns, it brought professionals from many facets of the work force to show that people don’t need to go to college to pursue a career after high school. Kelia is not anti-college, but for people who can’t attend college for financial or other reasons, there are still opportunities for them. Students were enlightened with possible career paths that they didn’t know before and were able to acquire life-lasting connections with professionals who showed them there are options. Please watch the video below to learn and observe a different path after high school that you possibly have not considered before.
