Because I talk a lot, some of my teachers immediately ignore what I have to say, even when it’s relevant. What should I do?
Dear Loquacious Linda,
It's great that you love to talk, and you shouldn't let anybody tell you otherwise, however if you do decide talk excessively in class, you being ignored is a risk you have to take. Talking in class has pros and cons, and you need to decide which is more important to you. While talking can invite thoughtful and interesting conversation, it can also completely derail a lesson plan. If you have something important to say, say it, but if what you have to say is just a waste of time, you should try writing it down and saying it later. Even if you are only talking slightly less than before, your teachers will appreciate it. Don’t ever allow your voice to be silenced, but once in a while in class, tone it down a little. A small difference can go a long way.
